FC Copa: Soccer in the city

Firstly, can you tell us about the history of the club and how it came to be formed?

FC Copa Academy is a professional soccer organization with over 17 years experience.  In 2004, our President and Founder, Roberto Aguas made a career/life decision to commit himself to the game and start FC Copa in 2004.  He started FC Copa to develop players of character to succeed in life.

FC Copa Academy proudly accomplished success on the field with countless nationally ranked teams, 26 State Cups, 19 Regional Titles and 2 National Championships appearances while having one of the highest college placements in the country.

In 2005, the FC Copa Futsal Academy was established and has achieved tremendous competitive success in Youth and Adult Futsal at both the state and regional levels for the past 16 years.

In 2016, under the New Jersey Copa FC moniker, we were a founding member of the pro-am UWS (United Women’s Soccer) and reached the 2016 National Championship.  In 2016 to provide a similar level of competition, the New Jersey Copa FC Men’s team competed in the NPSL for three seasons.

2020 was a significant year of challenges for any organization, and we are especially proud of the commitment from our players, families and staff as we all faced these unprecedented times.  Even during these tough times, FC Copa was able to add two additional Academy locations to its original Rutgers location in Middlesex County, New Jersey with FC Copa Millstone (Monmouth County, NJ) and FC Copa Brooklyn (New York City).

Additionally, 2020 also saw FC Copa become a founding member of the USL Academy and our New Jersey Copa FC men’s team joined the USL League Two, the leading platform in pre-professional soccer in North America.
